Setting up Dispatch

About thirty minutes for a store with a handful of zones. You'll need admin access to the Shopify store and its theme.

1. Install

Install Dispatch on your Shopify store and approve the 14-day trial. The app opens on the Dashboard, which shows your zones, postcode count, today's cut-off and whether the configuration is published to the storefront.

2. Create zones

A zone is a set of postcodes that share delivery days, cut-offs, fee and minimum order. Open Zones → New zone:

  1. Where — type suburb names or postcodes and pick from the list, or paste a list / range such as 3190-3199, 3930.
  2. When — choose a preset (weekdays + Saturday, weekdays, Tue/Fri) or tick days individually; set the same-day cut-off per day (for example 12:00 Monday–Friday and 09:00 Saturday); set lead days if the zone is never same-day.
  3. How much — delivery fee and minimum order shown to the shopper (Shopify's own shipping rates still charge the fee).

Repeat for each zone. A postcode may only be in one zone.

3. Pick-up, closed dates and the checkout rule

Under Settings: enable Store pick-up with its schedule and lead time; add Closed dates (public holidays, days off) store-wide or per zone; and keep Require a delivery date at checkout on — this activates the checkout validation that blocks orders without a valid date. The settings page shows whether the validation is active on the store.

4. Add the storefront blocks

  1. Online Store → Themes → Customize.
  2. Theme settings → App embeds → turn on Dispatch — site. Choose the popup style (split card or classic), colours, headings and whether the popup shows on the home page.
  3. Open a product page → in Product information choose Add block → Apps → Dispatch — delivery date. Drag it under the price.
  4. Open the cart page → in the subtotal/footer section choose Add block → Apps → Dispatch — cart summary.
  5. Save.

5. Publish and test

Back in the app, press Publish to storefront whenever you change zones or settings. Then visit the store: the popup should ask for a suburb on the home page, the product page should show the next available date, and the cart should list the delivery date under the item. Place a test order and check the order's attributes and line-item properties in Shopify admin.
